The Franklin Building History

The Franklin building was added to the Inn complex circa the late 40s by Helmuth. The first two rooms built were Franklin and Edy’s, The Franklin room was named for the stove he originally put in the room. Edy’s, originally called the ‘nap’ room, used for employees working throughout the day, was later named after the Deetjens’ long time friend and bookkeeper Edith O’Ryan. The Chateau Fiasco was added in 1961. It was the last room built by Stokes under the direction of Helmuth who, at 69, was too old to do the work himself. It is said that the room was named in mockery of the Bay of Pigs invasion, which occurred that same year.
