Chalet History
The Chalet Room, constructed as the upper floor of the Champagne building, was completed in 1941 during the expansion of The Row, initiated by Barbara Blake. This expansion was a response to the increasing number of travelers drawn to Big Sur by the newly completed Highway One. Perched high above the creek that winds through the canyon, the Chalet Room offers guests a sense of seclusion and a unique connection to the surrounding redwood forest. It feels as if the room is nestled among the treetops. This charming room embodies the rustic elegance and timeless tranquility that define Deetjen’s Big Sur Inn. It provides a perfect retreat for those seeking solace in nature’s embrace.
